home again

it's been a while since we've talked. sorry about that :) life post-mexico has been a whirlwind- engagement parties, family visits, cookouts, birthday parties, and wedding showers.
E V E R Y . S I N G L E . N I G H T.

regardless, of the hectic week we've been having, it's been absolutely wonderful. sean and i are living a "normal" life together!! if only for the week....

sean and i had a fabulous time in mexico, and escaped without swine flu!! i will dedicate another post to mexico soon.

early saturday morning, sean leaves for chattanooga and 2 months of intense surgical rotations. while i am going to miss him tremendously and i wish i could be there to support him and lend a helping hand when he needs it, i am also aware of the fact that it is a blessing for me to not have to witness the hell he's going to be put through. i just get to listen to the awesome stories.

there's your brief update on life in memphis. stay tuned for the details.

IT'S HERE.

no, not the abominable snowman. the moment of truth. sean is upstairs doing his "warm-up"... some random 'world' questions to get those brainy juices flowin'. he'll probably head out in 20 minutes or so. and then will be one step closer to M.D.!!

last night, i saw the manifestation of his nerves. nothing to bad, just some funny little things that i know are not in his normal routine :) he spent a couple minutes cleaning his earplugs (ew, i know) then proceeded to layout his clothes for the day. jeans and... what to wear, what to wear... he stood in the closet staring at his shirts for a good while, slowing scanning each row to figure out which shirt is going to be the shirt. he finally landed on a good one, a long-sleeved american eagle polo, and laid it by his jeans.

1. sean never lays his clothes out the night before.
2. when choosing an ensemble, sean is usually the most decisive person i know. i'm the one staring at the closet with desperation like someone stole my favorite outfit. so it was quite entertaining to see him so focused and determined.
3. the earplugs thing was just flat out FUNNY. the details make the man. :)

rachel and i are going for a run this morning, once we send the boys on their way. and then i'm going to make the surprise treat for sean- a reese's chocolate peanut butter cheesecake!! he doesn't know about this, and i hope it serves a wonderful surprise post-test. and i hope it don't screw it up. he's a cheesecake connoisseur and i've never made one. eeek. if it's fabulous i'll post the recipe- no doubt.

think happy thoughts

well, we're getting CLOSE!! on friday, sean takes step 1 of the us medical licensing exam. it's no secret that this test is a pretty big deal. i know it. he certainly knows it.

first thing's first: mad props go out to sean because he has maintained his signature calm & rational approach to this test. i feel as though he could easily be worrying himself sick- if it were me i'd most definitely be curled up in the corner in fetal position right about now. after our racquetball game today, he did admit that the nervousness is beginning to come out. completely normal, though. no nervousness is not a good thing.

sean has worked his ass off for the past two years, and kicked it into super-high gear for the last month and a half. i didn't know people could actually study as much and he and his friends do. he deserves every bit of good that comes his way.

so think happy thoughts on friday from 8am-4pm. well, actually, just go ahead and think happy thoughts starting NOW. gracias muchachos.

happy birthday weekend to me :)

it has been a fabulous day. the weather is un-freakin'-believable and i cannot believe that less than a week ago there was 6 inches of snow on the ground. i am sitting in our backyard blogging. on the deck, with the dog by my side. how incredibly lovely.

sean is taking me out for my birthday tonight (my bday isn't until sunday) to the tower room, which is at the top of this building:
yes, please! we tried to do this restaurant for valentine's but, as you can imagine, reservations filled up quickly.

earlier, sean's sister and her boyfriend came over for a couple of drinks. we sat out on our back deck with the dog, the cat, and some beer and had a grand ol' time. it truly feels like spring... and that makes me immensely happy :)

i love birthdays that flank the weekend, because then you really get several days to celebrate. tonight is our romantic "just the two of us" night, tomorrow is girl's night (i think mollie fontaine's is the plan), and sunday is family night (special dinner, cake and ice cream! yay!). I LOVE IT. maybe things will change as i get older, but i love birthdays and i loooove making them last as long as possible.

sweeeeetness

so i've come down with a bug. i think it's only allergies, but my dad had something similar earlier this week and his progressed into more of a cold. i'm really hoping that doesn't happen, since i'm hosting an engagement party tomorrow night and in general i pretty much loathe being sick in any way, shape, or form.

so last night, in an attempt to feel just a little better, i spent some quality time with the fabulous girls of sex and the city. first, the movie. then season 4. I LOVE IT. i did have a wonderful, relaxing bath in between, just so my laziness wouldn't fuse me to the bed. and the boyfriend was at school studying for yet ANOTHER assessment (only 2 more!! yay!). i saw yet another benefit of having a wonderful, caring, loving boyfriend. i needed some more allergy medicine and some sugar-free popsicles. he shows up with allergy medicine, popsicles, orange juice, kleenex, AND ghirardelli chocolate!! so sweet! i'm talking about the boyfriend, not the chocolate. well, the chocolate, too.

chocolate, warm baths, sex and the city, popsicles, and LOVE. life is complete.

perfect valentine's

we did it low key last night. our first choice for a restaurant was already booked up early in the week, so instead of searching for a place that would clearly be runner-up, we opted for a night in. it was quite a contrast to last year's valentine's- a romantic, candle-lit dinner at Paulette's... hands down one of the most romantic restaurants in memphis. and it was an absolutely perfect night and one i'll never forget. regardless of the differences between this year and last, they were equally as wonderful, enjoyable, and romantic.

this year we decided to "keep it real", if you will.
we picked up a bottle of wine
went to target and got a movie
 and yummy chocolates
and then went to little caesar's for their $5 hot-n-ready pizza deal (which by the way is the best deal any company that has ever existed has ever invented- we LOVE it).

it was one of the most perfect valentine's days EVER. we had a wonderful time together, talking laughing, snuggling.

all of this proves that it doesn't matter where you go, what you do, of how much money you spend, valentine's day is made perfect by the person that you spend it with.
